Women to Watch: Four Vermont Photographers

Jury Sends Four Vermont Women Photographers to NWMA Competition
The Vermont committee sponsored a juried competition in October of 2006 curated by John Miller, noted photographer and Johnson State college professor. Four women artists were chosen to have their work forwarded to the NMWA curatorial staff for inclusion in an exhibit in the museum's State Gallery.
NWMA curators chose collaborators Tarrah Krajnak & Wilka Roig  (www.tarrahwilka.com ) to exhibit their work at the museum in Washington, D.C. in the spring of 2008—one of 10 chosen from 17 state and international committees.

Masters of Vermont: Five Women Artists
The Bryan Memorial Gallery (www.bryangallery.org) graciously invited us to co-sponsor their show of five significant Vermont women artists:
Martha Wood Belcher (1844-1930), Hilda Belcher (1881-1963) Georgia Balch (1888-1981, Ruth Mould (1894-1979) and Mary Bryan (1906-1078).
This show was held April 15-June 17, 2007. For more information on these artists visit the Vermont Women’s History Project and click on Arts  (www.womenshistory.vermont.gov/Search/tabid/60/Default.aspx)
The show traveled to the Chaffee Art Center in Rutland VT, in the fall of 2007. The show was again co-sponsored by the Vermont Committee.

Women's Work: No Boundaries
The Vermont Committee sponsored a traveling exhibit of the five finalists from the July 2004 juried competition. Exhibit traveled to the Helen Day Art Center, Stowe and St. Michaels College in the summer of 2005 and the Chaffee Center for the Visual Arts in Rutland the early winter of 2006.

Book As Art Event - October 1-2, 2003

The first day featured a studio visit with artist Clair Van Vliet in Newark, followed by dinner at a member's home in Stowe. On the second day a workshop on book art was presented at the Helen Day Art Center in Stowe by Krystyna Wasserman, curator of books at NMWA. This was followed by a luncheon. The maximum capacity of 50 attendees was reached.

Reception and Lecture at the Firehouse Gallery - 2003

The Vermont committee held a fundraising reception on July 9, 2003 during the Alice Neel exhibit at the Firehouse Gallery in Burlington. The reception was followed by a guest lecture by Denise Bauer: Alice Neel's Feminist and Leftist Portraits of Women. One hundred people attended.

Vermont Jury Sends Ten Vermont Women Artists to NMWA Competition

The Vermont committee sponsored an open juried competition in August of 2002. Ten women artists were chosen to have their work forwarded to the NMWA curatorial staff for inclusion in an exhibit in the museum's State Gallery. NMWA curators selected Elizabeth Billings of Tunbridge, Vermont, to exhibit her work at the museum in Washington, D.C. in the spring of 2003.
